What Is ECFE & School Readiness?
Childhood Family Education (ECFE) is a Detroit Lakes Public School program for all families with children between the ages of birth to kindergarten entrance. The program is based on the idea that the family provides a child’s first and most significant learning environment and parents are a child’s first and most important teachers. ECFE works to strengthen families. Our goal is to enhance the ability of all parents to provide the best possible environment for their child’s learning and growth. ECFE programs focus on the family with emphasis on parent education and early childhood education.
School Readiness is a Detroit Lakes Public School program for children ages 3 to 5 years who have not entered kindergarten, and their families. Usually, children are identified to participate in the program through Early Childhood Screening. The goal of School Readiness is to help preschoolers enter school with the skills and behaviors necessary to be successful in future learning.
What Can it Do for Me?
Parent & Child Together Classes
Classes where parents spend time with their child doing fun, educational activities and meet with other parents to discuss parenting issues.

We provide information on topics such as your child’s development, discipline, building self-esteem and more. A variety of special classes are scheduled throughout the year.
Preschool Education for Children—Birth to Kindergarten Enrollment
ECFE Your 0-5 year old child will learn important skills through a variety of age appropriate parent & child together hands-on experiences. School Readiness Your 3-5 year old child will learn valuable social, emotional, physical and pre academic skills necessary for kindergarten success through Jump Start to Kindergarten Connection and Kindergarten Connection center based preschool classes .

Preschool on Wheel
Our licensed Early Childhood teachers bring stories, songs and educational activities designed to enhance the skills progression of children in your home. They will also bring parenting information for parents and childcare providers upon request.
Special Events, Storytime, Concerts, Field Trips & Indoor Playtimes
We offer numerous special activities throughout the year. Daytime and evening offerings provide time for parents with even the most demanding schedules to find time to enjoy learning with their child.

It is important for every child, birth to five, to be counted on our census. Once added you will receive information on upcoming preschool events, Preschool Screening, and other important school information. Please call us if you do not think you are on our census.
